May 2008

May 12 – AVH Lecture Series:  Mental Aerobics:  Teaching An Old Brain New Tricks. To be held at the Androscoggin Valley Hospital’s lecture room from 6-8 pm. Free admission and all are invited.  FMI call 326-5607.

May 16 – Ventriloquist, Donna Marie & Her Friends:  Ventriloquism never stops amazing children or adults.  Donna Marie and Her Fiends provide that amazement and a whole lot more.  With her singing, dancing, yodeling and flair for comedy, her show captures the imagination of audiences of all ages.  Presented by St. Kieran Community Center for the Arts at 7pm.  Admission is $12 per adult and $6 per student/child. Mid-May through Mid-October – River Boat Tours.  Take a scenic ride along the beautiful and historical Androscoggin River.  Tours run Tuesday-Saturday at 2pm and again at 5pm.  Boats leave from the docks at the Northern Forest Heritage Park in Berlin, NH.  Enjoy the scenery as you learn about the significance of the river and local history on this narrated 90-minute tour.  FMI call 752-7202.

 

JUNE 2008

June 5 – Drive in the 50’s: Classic and antique cars line the streets of Berlin with food, entertainment, and lots of fun. FMI call 752-6246.

June 7 – 7th Annual Kids Free Fishing Day: Wildcat Pond, Route 16, Gorham, NH, 9:00-12:00.  For kids 15 years and younger -  lots of fishing, casting contest, learning stations, and prizes.  Bring an adult and your own fishing gear. June 12 – Royal River Philharmonic Jazz Band:  This six member ensemble plays some of the best New Orleans Dixieland Jazz you will ever hear.  From clarinet, trombone, trumpet and banjo to tuba, they really know how to swing.  Based in Maine, their performances complete with straw hats and stripped shirts dazzle, entertain, inspire, and can’t be beat!  Presented by St. Kieran Community Center for the Arts at 7pm.  Admission is $12 per adult and $6 per student/child. June 21 – 1st Annual Cultural Festival:  Formerly the Festival du Bois, the Cultural Festival will host entertainment and food from various nationalities:  Norwegian, French Canadian, and others.  Later in the evening will bring a special program and live entertainment for the younger generation.  FMI call 752-7202.

June 26 – Le Vent DU Nord:  Blowing in from Quebec, this popular group of young musicians brings the perfect marriage of authentic and traditional Quebecois songs and music with thoughtful subtly modern interpretations.  8 instruments, 4 voices in harmony and 2 generations of musical background.  Superb performers.  Just in time for Jean Baptiste and Quebec 400 Celebrations!  Presented by St. Kieran Community Center for the Arts at 7pm.  Admission is $12 per adult and $6 per student/child. JULY 2008

July 7-12 – Sidewalk Sale:  Take a walk up and down Berlin’s Main Street.  Shops will offer sales galore.  FMI call 752-6246.

July 10 – Mark Versailli on Stage:  A phenomenal, critically acclaimed impressionist, he captivates audiences with a cast of characters, which now includes over 120 personalities.  One critic writes, “He may be the only impressionist on the planet who will do Nat “King” Cole & Natalie Cole, Michael Bolton, Randy Travis, Willie Nelson, Julie Iglesias, and Sammy Davis, Jr. in the same breath!”  Presented by St. Kieran Community Center for the Arts at 7pm.  Admission is $12 per adult and $6 per student/child. July 15 – Northward Board Chamber Music Series:  Back by popular demand.  Young artists from the International Musical Arts Institute present a summer evening concert with selections from the Masters showcasing the beauty & breadth of classical music.  Share the evening with a friend!  Presented by St. Kieran Community Center for the Arts at 7pm.  Admission is $12 per adult and $6 per student/child. July 24 – The 60’s Invasion:  Dig out your old beads and bell-bottoms—New England’s Premier 60’s Band is coming to town!  Bringing back fond memories of the music, singers and bands “we all knew and loved”, their program includes tributes to Rock and Roll, The Beatles, and even popular TV songs and Themes of the 60’s.  A great summer show not to be missed!  !”  Presented by St. Kieran Community Center for the Arts at 7pm.  Admission is $12 per adult and $6 per student/child. AUGUST 2008

August 2 – 1st Annual River Day:  Celebrate the Androscoggin River with lots of fun on the river and at the Northern Forest Heritage Park in Berlin, NH.  River Boat Tours will be running, as well as invited individuals with their kyaks, canoes, rubber rafts, and a variety of floating boats.  A fun-filled day for the whole family with lots of food & boats.  FMI call 752-7202.

 

SEPTEMBER 2008

September 13 – 2nd Annual Pig Roast:  Enjoy the food and live entertainment at the Northern Forest Heritage Park along the riverbanks of the Androscoggin River.  FMI call 752-7202.

September 19 – Jeh Kulu Dance & Drum Theater:  Sixteen highly American artists share traditional West African rhythms and dances from the countries of Guinea, Senegal and Mali, West Africa.  With joy, passion, high energy and beautiful costumes, they raise cultural awareness, create community sharing, and bring the spirit of West African Music and Dance to audiences of all ages.  Presented by St. Kieran Community Center for the Arts at 7pm.  Admission is $12 per adult and $6 per student/child. September 28 – 9th Annual Lumberjack Festival:  The “best of the best” lumberjacks from all over the United States compete in numerous categories.  The outside ampitheatre along the Androscoggin River provides a great venue for such competition, food, and fun.  FMI call 752-7202.

 

NOVEMBER 2008

November 1 – “A Pirate’s Life for Me” Children’s Theatre:  Presented by the popular children’s entertainers JULIE BROWN—Just in time for Halloween weekend festivities, A Pirate’s Life for Me is a fun, silly and wise New England Pirate’s adventure story told with original songs, music & colorful costumes to delight children of all ages.  Written by NH’s Brownie Macintosh, copies his newly released children’s book will be available for singing for the show!  Presented by St. Kieran Community Center for the Arts at 2pm.  Admission is $12 per adult and $6 per student/child. November 7 – Susie Burke & David Surrette:  Together since 1988, this popular duo is famous for presenting their unique blend of original folk & acoustic music.  Burke’s vocals are stunning and heartfelt & matched by Surrette’s ease on guitar.   Presented by St. Kieran Community Center for the Arts at 2pm.  Admission is $12 per adult and $6 per student/child. November 15 – Berlin Jazz! & St. Kieran Arts 8th Anniversary:  20 dynamic performers bring the best of the Big Band Era’s Jazz, Swing & favorite American tunes to the stage in a special benefit concert for the Arts Center.  Join us for refreshments & the unveiling of the new 2009 Arts Series!  Presented by St. Kieran Community Center for the Arts at 2pm.  Admission is $12 per adult and $6 per student/child. November 28 – Parade of Lights:  Lots of lighted floats & marching bands parade the streets of Berlin bringing the spirit of Christmas with Santa and Mrs. Claus in the finale.  FMI call 752-6246.

 

DECEMBER 2008

December 4 – Holiday Open House w/Live Mannequins:  Berlin Main Street shops celebrate altogether with holiday specials, food, and live mannequins in the windows.  FMI call 752-6246.

December 6 – Teddy Bear Picnic:  Children 12 & under are invited to join Santa & Mrs. Claus for a teddy bear picnic.  Food, crafts, and pictures with Santa & Mrs. Clause – all at the Northern Forest Heritage Park in Berlin, NH.  FMI call 752-7202 or 752-6060.

The Nutcracker Ballet:  Over 40 dancers of the Robinson Ballet Company bring the magic of the holiday classic to life for children of all ages.  Beautiful costumes, magical set designs and a dream-come-true adventure.  !  Presented by St. Kieran Community Center for the Arts at 3pm.  Admission is $12 per adult and $6 per student/child. WEEKLY EVENTS for Jackson Ski Touring Foundation, Jackson, NH

Mondays, 9:30AM - “WAXING DEMONSTRATIONS”.  A Monday morning tradition. Get the latest info from getting started to race fine-tuning. This waxing demonstration will make it all clear. All welcome. Tuesdays & Fridays, Jan 4-March 14.  “EASY SLIDERS” is a gentle introduction to cross country skiing and winter fitness for people who want to exercise but don’t quite know how to begin.  Open to absolute beginners. Each 1-hr instruction and gentle practice session starts at 10:30AM followed by refreshments by the fire in the base lodge. Rate is $10 for each session including rentals (for the session period only).  This program will introduce new skiers to basic XC technique and give participants the chance to experience the fun and fitness benefit of our snow sport.  FMI call 383-9355 or 1-800-927-6697.

Fridays, Jan 4—March 14.

Saturdays, 10AM-Noon. The very popular “SNOWSHOE INSTRUCTIONAL NATURE TOUR”.  Our guide leads a group on a snowshoe outing and gives snowshoe technique tips along the way. It’s the perfect way to introduce yourself to snowshoeing and the winter woods.  Fee $10/$8 for annual members.
